An Iowa native, Emily grew up in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. She attended undergrad at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She then attended law school at Drake University in Des Moines, where she was the faculty representative for the Student Bar Association, member of the Moot Court Board, secretary of Drake Law Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, president of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society, and participated in numerous mediation tournaments both nationally and internationally.
After graduating with her Juris Doctorate from Drake in 2009, she returned to Waterloo and practiced in private law for five years. In 2014, she returned to the Des Moines area, accepting a position at SouthLaw, P.C. She is currently the supervising attorney of Iowa foreclosures at SouthLaw.
When she’s not working, Emily enjoys spending time with her wife Lindsey, her son Braden, dog Jay, and cat Wrigley. She is an avid sports fan, particularly of the Chicago Cubs. Emily enjoys volunteer work as well, and is active with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Lawyer Moms of America, serves as PTA President at Crossroads Park Elementary School in West Des Moines, and coaches her son’s baseball team.
