Cecilia Martinez

Cecilia Martinez is a Program Coordinator with One Iowa. Born in Mexico, Cecilia and their family moved to Iowa in 1997 and have been here since. They graduated from Simpson College in 2018 and have worked with the LGBTQ community since high school. They are passionate about equity and access across the board for underrepresented communities across Iowa. Their previous work includes clerking in the Iowa House during the 2019 Legislative Session, being Program Coordinator for the Latinos CAN program with the Office of Latino Affairs, and working in a Planned Parenthood clinic.

Cecilia is also a board member with Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice, an organization serving immigrants and refugees in the state through both legal services and advocacy. As a Queer immigrant Cecilia understands the importance of intersectionality and helping those impacted by various systems of oppression. Language access is an important part of their work. Being bilingual in both Spanish and English, Cecilia often works to help translate or interpret information for Spanish speaking folks. In their free time they enjoy playing video games. making art. and being chronically online.
