LGBTQ Health and Wellness Conference: Submit Request for Proposal
The One Iowa Midwest LGBTQ Health and Wellness Conference is focused on the holistic health of LGBTQ individuals in the Midwest. This conference is a welcome space for those engaged in LGBTQ health, including healthcare, mental health, and healthcare support. Physicians, therapists, social workers, dentists, physical therapists, community health workers, medical students, etc., are invited to join. The 2024 conference will be held in person in Iowa City, Iowa.
The conference is focused on navigating the interlocking systems of care for LGBTQ community members and the associated barriers. One Iowa prioritizes submissions that focus on intersectionality and the liberation of all LGBTQ people, meaning that sessions that address issues of racism, ableism, xenophobia, rurality, fatphobia, and classism are highly valued in selection.
Sessions will last for 75 minutes, including at least ten minutes for participant engagement and question and answer. One Iowa will be offering continuing education credits for healthcare providers.
One Iowa is looking forward to proposal submissions that focus both on technical skills related to affirming care for LGBTQ individuals as well as best practices for coordinating care to meet the needs of LGBTQ patients. Because of this, we are welcoming conference proposals that focus on many types of healthcare (dental health, mental health, physical therapy, etc.) as well as sessions that cover topics including the social determinants of health, barriers to healthcare, and wrap-around services for LGBTQ patients.
Examples of session topics can include:
- Intersecting identities and barriers to access
- Example: the intersection of medicalized racism and medicalized transphobia to better understand the needs of Trans patients of color
- Hormone Replacement Therapy
- The community health model and LGBTQ patients
- Vaginoplasty
- Public health issues related to LGBTQ care
- LGBTQ-affirming STD/STI screening, etc.
- Advocacy and policy considerations for LGBTQ healthcare in the midwest
- LGBTQ+ affirming IVF best practices
