Donna Red Wing Advocate of the Year: Alexandra St. James Gray (2020)
Each year we honor advocates and allies making a difference in the Iowa LGBTQ+ community at our annual Gala. We are excited to introduce you to Alexandra St. James Gray, recipient of the Donna Red Wing Advocate of the Year Award (2020).
Gray is a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and has served in many organizations across the Midwest. She is an activist, advocate, actress, and educator – all titles she wears proudly. Her beloved role as a Pre-K teacher is met with her unmatched talent as a performer and professional singer. She sees living authentically as a Black, Trans woman in Iowa an act of empowerment and hopes to inspire the future generation of young, BIPOC, queer Iowans to do the same.
She continuously propels us to do better and have tough conversations about inclusivity and intersectionality within the LGBTQ+ community. The resilience, dedication and grace that Alexandra embodies is what makes her our advocate of the year.
If you haven’t already, make sure to register for the One Iowa Virtual Gala to hear a special live performance from her you won’t want to miss!
