One Iowa Program Coordinator

Start Date: October 2024

One Iowa is looking for an engaged self-starter to join us as the next Program Coordinator. This person will be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing One Iowa programming, facilitating community education, providing direct service support, and building community connections across the state of Iowa. 

A successful Program Coordinator will need to be confident in coordinating logistics, working with community partners, performing effective community outreach, and moving between various projects and programs on a daily basis. A successful Program Coordinator should also be knowledgeable of LGBTQ+ issues and prepared to approach all parts of their work from an intersectional lens, emphasizing the liberation of all LGBTQ peoples. The Program Coordinator should be comfortable with grant work and public speaking and facilitation. 

The Program Coordinator will report to the One Iowa Executive Director and work closely with the other Program Coordinator to meet organizational programming needs. A background in community organizing, advocacy, public health, social work, public speaking, or DEI work recommended. 

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Facilitating One Iowa training focused on workplace culture, health and wellness, and various LGBTQ+ topics. On average, Program team members facilitate up to 50 trainings yearly. 
  • Working with the Program Coordinator, Executive Director, and Communications and Events Manager to take lead on One Iowa programs, including the One Iowa LGBTQ+ Leadership Institute, Health and Wellness Conference, and Workplace Culture Summit. 
  • Working with other staff members, including the Office and Grants Coordinator on grant writing, implementation, and reporting. 
  • Development of the One Iowa LGBTQ+ Resource Guide, including updating the guide, interfacing with potential resources, and expanding resource referral processes. 
  • Providing direct service support to LGBTQ+ Iowans and their communities. Please note that this direct service component does not include case management or crisis intervention.
  • Completing outreach efforts throughout Iowa, including tabling at community events, Pride festivals, and conferences. 
  • Collecting feedback from program and training participants to strengthen programming and grant reporting. 

Skills Required: 

  • Understanding of the values of liberation and intersectionality, especially as it relates to LGBTQ+ issues and programming. 
  • Skilled project management- a strong applicant for this position would feel comfortable jumping between large projects frequently and be independent and self-driven. 
  • Growth mindset and resiliency- an understanding that things might not go perfectly and the ability to take feedback and work to improve. 
  • Experience and comfort facilitating virtual and in-person training-experience facilitating LGBTQ+-specific material appreciated but not required. 
  • Knowledge or experience working with rural communities is appreciated, but not required. 
  • Experience and knowledge of effective community outreach strategies. This experience can include coalition building, collaboration, and relationship building in a variety of settings. 
  • Knowledge of WordPress not required, but appreciated. Ability to learn WordPress on the job is also preferred. 
  • Knowledge of public health, community health, social work, or sociology topics, especially when put into practice outside of an academic setting. 
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to manage and complete multiple projects simultaneously.

The Program Coordinator is a full-time position (32-40 hours/week) with a starting salary range of $41-44k, in addition to benefits, (2) week-long shutdowns of One Iowa in addition to individual PTO, and holiday time off. This position is exempt. Hours include typical work week hours and occasional weekend and evening hours as the job requires. Please note that during the month of June, evening and weekend hours will increase with Pride month festivities, especially for Program team members. The One Iowa office is located in Des Moines, Iowa. This position will include remote and in-person duties, so applicants should either live in the Des Moines area or be willing to relocate to Des Moines. The Program Coordinator will be provided a computer and other equipment to complete their work.
