Always curious and never under caffeinated, Maddie is a Des Moines native and proud Hawkeye alumna. She grew up in a strong Hispanic family where advocacy came along with making homemade enchiladas, among other things. She took that recipe and a deep fire within her to college where she graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Journalism and Critical Cultural Competency.
She has dedicated her young career to working at progressive nonprofits from the ACLU of Iowa to President Obama’s Organizing for Action (OFA). She is excited to have found a new home at One Iowa where she can continue to learn about the complex issues minority communities face and how to challenge them in sustainable and effective ways through volunteers, votes and very generous donations.
When she’s not in the office, you might find her thrifting, curating the perfect playlist or spending too much time worrying about something that happened ten years ago.
