Donna Red Wing brings with her a fire and a passion to better serve One Iowa and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Red Wing has decades of experience in working for full equality for LGBT people across the country, serving most recently as Executive Director of Grassroots Leadership.
In her years as a visionary leader, Donna was Executive Director of Interfaith Alliance, Policy Director of The Gill Foundation, National Field Director for the Human Rights Campaign, the National Field Director for The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and Executive Director of The Lesbian Community Project. In addition, Donna was one of three members of President Barack Obama’s kitchen cabinet on LGBT concerns and was Howard Dean’s outreach liaison to the LGBT community.
While directing the Lesbian Community Project in Oregon, Donna was featured in a Sundance Award-winning film about the 1992 struggle against the anti-LGBT Ballot Measure 9. Donna was the first recipient of the Walter Cronkite Award for Faith & Freedom.
