Today we have equal dignity in the eyes of the law…we celebrate this moment as we stand on the shoulders of our Stonewall generation… We celebrate our fabulous young people who are refreshing and recasting the movement. We stand with our PFLAG mothers and fathers and with those faith traditions that have included us. We stand with the politicians on the left and on the right who have worked long and hard to create laws to protect us. We celebrate the advocates and activists who have struggled with us, our families, our friends, our children and our allies. We make music with the chorus and the other cultural warriors who have sung our songs of freedom.
We celebrate this moment with every loving couple that had the courage and the tenacity to believe that their love had truth and dignity. We celebrate for all of those who never got to see this day and we thank them.
Today, here in Iowa, we reach out to our beloved community – to our state and to our nation – we reach out with a message of celebration and inclusion. Tonight we reach out to friend and foe and simply say that here, in America – Love is Love and Love Wins.
