My Last Day at One Iowa
Today marks my last day in the role of Executive Director at One Iowa. There will never be words to describe my experience over the last two and a half years. It truly has been my dream job. I will be forever grateful for this experience working to improve LGBTQ inclusion in Iowa.
I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish during my tenure at One Iowa. Some of the highlights include increasing our presence statewide, expanding programming, hiring more staff who are passionate about the work, and launching my brainchild, the LGBTQ Leadership Institute. One Iowa’s vision for the future is strategic, and I’m proud to have been a part of laying the groundwork to move the organization’s mission forward.
The one thing I am most grateful for is all of you. I have been fortunate enough to meet thousands of people who share the vision of advancing, empowering, and improving the lives of LGBTQ Iowans statewide. These LGBTQ community members and allies are courageous, passionate, and authentic. Without this job, I would have never had the opportunity to meet so many of you, and it has changed my life for the better. You all give me hope that we can create a world that is truly inclusive of the LGBTQ community.
One Iowa is in a healthy and sustainable position to do even more amazing work. Now is the time to give to this amazing organization and help continue to improve the lives of LGBTQ Iowans. This work is not only the right thing to do, but it is critical and lifesaving.
As I transition out of the role of Executive Director, I am honored to stay engaged with this extraordinary organization as an aspiring ally, supporter, advocate, and donor. My husband Charles and I are proud to be donors and will continue to be part of the Trailblazer Society – dedicated funders of the LGBTQ Leadership Institute. Can One Iowa count on you to donate today?
Every dollar counts, whether it is a $10 one-time gift, a monthly recurring donation, or even becoming part of the Trailblazer Society. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Trailblazer Society, please reach out to Interim Executive Director Courtney Reyes at [email protected].
One of the mantras I try to live out loud each day is using my privilege and power for good. In addition to supporting, advocating, and donating to One Iowa to improve the lives of LGBTQ Iowans, I ask each one of you to use the privilege and power you hold for good. We must do a better job of this for transgender and non-binary individuals, older LGBTQ adults, LGBTQ people of color, and so many others.
One Iowa is in good hands with the leadership of the board of directors and staff. This small but mighty team has been a joy to work with, and I will miss their daily presence dearly. I have no doubt that their commitment, compassion, and competence will continue to do great things for LGBTQ Iowans. I’m proud to call them all friends.
In my new role as supporter, advocate, and donor, I hope to continue seeing many of you out in the community. If you are in Des Moines this Friday, please stop by St. Kilda Surf & Turf in the East Village between 8:00 am and 10:00 am for the sendoff gathering One Iowa is hosting for me.
Thank you for all that you do for One Iowa and LGBTQ Iowans.
