One Iowa and Des Moines University to Host 6th Annual LGBTQ Health & Wellness Conference

One Iowa and Des Moines University will host the 6th Annual LGBTQ Health & Wellness Conference on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. at the Des Moines University Student Education Center. The event is aimed at addressing health inequities and disparities that LGBTQ Iowans continue to experience in our state.

“Many LGBTQ Iowans struggle to access inclusive health care,” One Iowa Executive Director Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel said. “Some travel for hours to receive basic preventative care from a provider they trust, and others feel so unsafe that they don’t access medical care at all if they can help it. Our current political climate has frightened our most vulnerable and exacerbated this problem even further.”

“Cultivating inclusive health care environments for LGBTQ Iowans is one of One Iowa’s top priorities, and this conference is a crucial part of that work. Health care providers, LGBTQ Iowans, and allies have much to learn from one another. This conference gives them the chance to gather in one space as we work together to improve health care access for LGBTQ Iowans across the state.”

Workshop topics include:

  • Mental Health in the Transgender Community
  • LGBTQ Data Collection in Iowa
  • LGBTQ Health Policy
