Amanda Huppert
Amanda has been involved in progressive politics and causes as long as she can remember. Her mother Peggy was involved in the local political scene before Amanda was born, and frequently brought Amanda to political events and fundraisers starting at a young age. By the time she was in junior high, Amanda was an experienced volunteer, doing everything from stuffing envelopes to asking for political contributions. This continued on through high school with Amanda volunteering with any and every major political race in Polk County, including gubernatorial, congressional, local house and senate races and even a school board race or two. She was also involved in Valley High School’s young Democrats. She graduated from the University of Iowa in the spring of 2006 with a degree in communication studies. While Amanda was in school, she worked for the University of Iowa Foundation doing fundraising calls and she also interned for a summer with the Downtown Events Group doing event coordination for the annual Des Moines Arts Festival. After graduating from college she worked for Karrie Weinhardt, a local event and wedding planner in the Des Moines area, before moving on to be a field organizer for the non-partisan caucus campaign Iowans for Sensible Priorities. Before joining the One Iowa family, she was a field organizer for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland (formally Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa). She lives in West Des Moines and enjoys reading, scrapbooking, cooking and spending time with her family and boyfriend, Mike.
