Herman Cain
When Atlanta native Herman Cain first entered the race, he was essentially unknown and an unlikely candidate to receive the nomination. He is a Republican businessman who has no experience in public office and has worked in the private sector for decades as the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO. He also served as the President of the National Restaurant Association because of his financial success in turning Godfather’s Pizza into a profit-maker.
He touts his business leadership as a reason to vote for him and has run on a platform of tax cuts and reform. He has earned support for his 9-9-9 tax plan which would completely revamp the current tax code with a 9% flat income tax, a 9% corporate tax, and a 9% sales tax.
On social issues, Cain votes predominately along Republican lines and has voiced his opposition to marriage equality and his support for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), illegal immigration, and reproductive choice, among other things. He also been inconsistent and has expressed his support for amending the constitution to ban marriage between loving and committed couples, but does not support "rewriting" the constitution.
After a brief surge in the polls, Herman Cain's campaign for the presidency officially ended in December 2011. Cain's rocky road included four allegations of sexual harrassment, another allegation of an extramarital affair, and a lacky of clarity on key issues, as reported by The Des Moines Register.

"I would lead the charge to overturn the Supreme Court if they overturned DOMA, whether that was new legislation coming out of the Congress like Rep. Bachmann said — the United States Congress is supposed to pass a law, so if they did overturn DOMA, that charge I would lead to reverse that."

I used to believe that it could be just handled by the states but there's a movement going on to basically take the teeth out of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act and that could cause an unraveling, so we do need some protection at the federal level because of that and so yes I would support legislation that would say that it's between a man and a woman.”
