Sweet Equality 2011

Thank you for helping make Sweet Equality 2011 a huge success! We couldn’t have done it without you. We appreciate all your efforts and for creating such wonderful food for the event!

We had over 140 supporters in attendance. A few of those supporters who attended in the past took the time to tell us how they thought this was the best Sweet Equality yet. We know we will continue to build upon this success, to make each year better than the last.

Congratulations to our culinary competition winners:

Best Professional Chef: David Baruthio, Baru 66

Best Amateur Chef: Mary Kay Wilson

Best Decadent Dessert: Mary Kay Wilson’s Almond Bars

Best Savory Dish: White Raspberry Fusion dip with homemade crackers, Emily Bollinger and Maggie Walker

This year, we also unveiled a beautiful and intricately designed quilt from One Iowa supporter Liz Varnum. The quilt is truly a work of art and will be available for one lucky supporter at our anniversary gala in April. Don’t miss it!

Again, we can’t thank you enough. You had a major role to play in making Friday night special, and we will keep in touch for next year’s Sweet Equality–which surely will be bigger, better, and sweeter.

Check out some of the photos from the event!

Sweet Equality is a chance for local celebrities and professional chefs from around Iowa to showcase their talents. It is part culinary competition, part auction, and all fun! Together, it is a lively celebration of marriage equality with tasty treats and libations.

The proceeds from this event will support One Iowa’s mission of protecting equality for all LGBT Iowans.

Thanks to our amazing sponsors. We could not have done this without you!
